It's 4 p.m. --- the Witching Hour in many households. "Daddy" is not home from work yet, "Mommy" is trying to get dinner going, the kids are cranky and are whining for cookies.
Mommy barks, "No cookies now --- you'll ruin your dinner!" and sends the kids out to play. Once they are out of sight, Mommy tries to calm her anger by stuffing it down with a few cookies for herself. What the kids don't know won't hurt them, right?
I'm embarrassed to admit how many times this scenario played out in our kitchen since we have had children. I found myself going to food when I was stressed, tired, lonely, bored, angry or depressed. After five years of marriage and three children, I was 31 pounds heavier than my wedding day.
I knew the chance of getting back to that original weight was slim, but I did want to try to lose 15 to 20 pounds of the extra baggage I was carrying, but how?
Diets have never worked for me because I have always lacked discipline. Then one day, I noticed an ad in a Catholic magazine for the Light Weigh, a Catholic spiritual growth and weight loss program.
I called them, received their information, and decided to form a group. We began to meet in February and at the end of the 12 week session, I lost 17 pounds!
More importantly though, I have gained tremendous spiritual blessings through the program. Our marriage is stronger, I am more at peace, and I have never been so aware of Jesus' presence in my life.
Jesus is my refuge! I'm learning to turn to him who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life, instead of turning to food.
If you struggle with overweight or just are looking for a program to deepen your spiritual life, call or email the Light Weigh. I don't think you will ever regret it!
